Apple Lab

In our apple lab, we looked for both chemical reactions and physical changes. Student were given 4 different substances they needed to place their apples in. They were given lemon juice, water, baking soda solution, and milk of magnesia. Over night we let our apples sit out. On the second day, students observed what kind of change took place.

Chemical Reaction Lab

Last week in science our 5th graders studied physical and chemical reactions. We participated in a white powder lab. Students were given different white powders to mix into different liquids. They needed to observe whether a chemical reaction occurred. They charted their results into their science journal.

This week we started studying matter. We begin on Monday with the phases of matter.

On Tuesday, we talked about physical properties, chemical properties, physical changes, and chemical changes.

Today, we made lava lamps and discussed the physical properties of water, oil, and the tub tints. We also discussed the chemical reaction that occurred when we dropped the tub tint into the water and oil.
